So I've been reading through the latest in the Gathering Storm books that came out on Saturday. Some fun things that have come up:

Ulthwe strike force is back, along with Black Guardians. Some potentially potent options for them. It's a formation of 1-4 units of Black Guardians which can be Guardian squad, jetbike squadron, vyper squadron or war walkers. Apart from having I5, statlines are the same as the normal codex equivalent. Black guardian squads can be equipped as defenders or storm guardians.

But the fun part is the webway assault rule. You *must* keep all units in reserve, but they can roll to arrive from turn 1 onwards if you have a full formation of 4 units. When they arrive from reserve they do not scatter, but must be placed at least 9" away from any enemy models.

So ultimate alpha strike. You get to deploy where you want, within weapon range for the guardians (which, since it's 12", is kind of important) and get the first shot off at full strength.

Some fun fluff tidbits:
They have bits of Imperial communications excerpts throughout the book. One that I've come across so far mentions that they have found a genestealer cult on Terra with the Custodes and officio assassinorum currently conducting a purge. The Hive that has the cult in it has been quarantined under the guise of containing a flesh eating bacteria outbreak.

The Tau have had a whole exploratory fleet eaten by the warp in the Damocles Gulf. What will happen to them is anyone's guess.

I'm only about 1/3rd of the way through the book so far, but it feels fun.

Well, I guess I'll finally get around to painting some War Walkers wink.gif

I'm looking forward to playing a combined Harlequin/Craftworld/Dark Eldar army with the new rules.

Not that I can see. The code name the Imperials are using for the quarantine is Black Gnaw though.

There is also an excerpt that hints at Fulgrim being back and pwning guardsmen on a hive planet.

This makes me happy. I was really getting sick of Tau's plot armour in the fluff. Happy to see them actually have something happen.

Looking forward to sitting down and reading the book properly when I get a chance. So much fun.

Interestingly, the Eldar plan is to bring back Guilliman to give Humanity a focus for their faith, which makes them more resistant to the taint / corruption of Chaos as the Emperor's time is done.

This is so they have a "reliable" ally in the fight against Chaos.

There is also some big thing heading towards Terra that is spawning warp storms in its wake. It's not clear if it's a planet (the fluff bit mentions a forgeworld exploding", but it kind of sounds like the Crimson Tide thing that has been around for a while.

I do really like the angle of the Eldar needing to create a focal point for mankind's faith energy.

I think the Crimson Tide would make a degree of sense. It was the Legion of the Damned who stopped it last time and they have been popping up a bit. I guess that'd also be a good way to release an Angron model and some more juicy Khorne stuff.
